When to migrate to MediaBlaster
If you are maintaining an older WP Smart TV install but planning a move to modern video libraries, podcasts, REST APIs, or streaming apps, start with a staging copy of your site. Use the legacy version if…
- You have an existing site depending on old WP Smart TV feeds.
- You need a feature or layout not yet migrated.
- You are maintaining an older install and are not ready to upgrade.
Use MediaBlaster if…
- You are starting a new site.
- You want modern docs, REST/headless support, Vimeo workflows, podcasts, video libraries, or future resources.
- You want the actively developed version.
Compatibility notes
WP Smart TV was renamed MediaBlaster. The current 3.x plugin preserves legacy content and metadata where possible, but Roku Direct Publisher endpoints and admin screens were removed after Roku discontinued Direct Publisher. Back up your site, review the current changelog, and test any upgrade from WP Smart TV 2.x on staging before changing production.
The current plugin requires WordPress 6.3 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. Check the live WordPress.org listing for the latest tested WordPress version and release number.
